Now, write a story in no more than 250 words, drawing inspiration from the photo. Remember, we are looking for horror, the strange, the weird and worrisome, the macabre and mysterious.

Closing date is 31st January 2014. We will pick one winner who will receive a £15/$20 Amazon voucher and have their story published in Massacre Magazine. Our decision is final, any moaners will be mangled.

Massacre Winter Contest Winner: Hurrah for…

His entry Burning Questions is the winner of our first flash fiction contest and Matt receives the prize of an Amazon voucher. You will be able to read Matt’s winning story in the first edition of Massacre Magazine, due December 2013. We will also post the story on the website shortly after.

Some of the submissions were so good we decided we’d have to also choose a runner up, and we are pleased to announce Jake Sheridan takes that second place. His story will also appear in Massacre Magazine.

Whilst Massacre Magazine is primarily a fiction publication, we do seek excellent writing on all aspects of the horror genre.

Therefore we welcome unsolicited submissions, for publication in Massacre Magazine and/or on our website, dealing with horror in an entertaining and informative way.

Any subject may be considered if it relates to horror.

As the summer recedes and the days grow shorter…and darker…and colder, the longest night approaches. Massacre Magazine is looking for winter solstice themed stories for its first edition. Can your words chill Jack Frost to the bone? Will your demons drive an icicle through the heart of Krampus? Whether your story is about the longest night itself, rituals gone awry, Hell freezing over, or creatures that lurk beneath our frozen surface, we want to see it. Deadline for winter solstice themed stories is October 31st 2013 (midnight, GMT). Word count: 1000 – 5000. In the subject line of your email please put: SOLSTICE/YOUR NAME/TITLE OF YOUR WORK. It is our aim to release Issue 1 with the winter solstice content around December 1st 2013. However, we are looking for great writing and if this means we have to extend that date we will do so. We will provide further information if you are accepted and before you sign a contract.
